How it works
One humane system, end to end.
Land, hunters and processors connected on a single platform — so pest control becomes fully traceable, circular and kind to the landscape.
From listed land to recovered landscape.
Five connected steps turn a positive decision — to list a property — into healthier country.
List the land
A landholder registers a property, target species and access terms. We just need to know if, when and what type control has been done previously.
Verify & match
We prepare the toxin-free declarations from the information and share nearby hunter profiles; or, if you know a Happy Ending harvester, we’ll connect you both.
Humane harvest
Hunters work to the terms; every shot is geotagged and logged for traceability. Freeze what’s caught and plan the next hunt.
Process & deliver
Each session is digitally recorded and ships as a data docket, with the animals, to an MPI-approved processor to become wholesome pet food.
Land recovers
The local species return, and if the pests return, we keep the pressure on. We can create a record of native species to measure the improvement over time for biodiversity credits.
Built to the rules, by default.
Everything that makes harvesting for pet food legal and humane is enforced by the system — not left to memory and loose bits of paper.
Declarations
Supplier and poison-use statements are prepared digitally from landholder information. We’ll remind you when to renew them.
Vetted hunters
Identity, firearms licence and testing to MPI standards, checked before access. Trained for humaneness and wild game handling.
Geotagged shots
Acoustic detection logs each shot to the map, completing the harvest record automatically.
Session dockets
Every box of wild game ships with its own MPI-compliant docket, scanned by the processor on arrival.
Te Rāwhiti Station
One property, three wins.
4500 ha on the south-west of our capital city is now home to over 200 Kiwi and no longer home to around 400 rabbits, every month. By removing rabbits and hares, the habitat for kiwi, is less able to hold stoat’s and ferrets.
Guy has always maintained pest control on the station, with neighbours and farmhands. When the numbers increased, Guy was keen to try a new way and has the freezers ready. Happy Ending handles compliance, hunters and shipping. Free.
Paperwork handledRight on the outskirts of Wellington, there are plenty of keen hunters filling the calendar. Once onboarded, hunters are regularly aligning work and family with the chance to top up the bank by doing what they love.
Paid per harvestConsignments arrive with all the paperwork — fully traceable back to the paddock, MPI-compliant, and ready to become pet food. Shipped frozen, by the pallet, on cold transport.
One system, three roles.
Landholders
List your land, set the terms, and watch the native species return — with all the paperwork and payments handled for you.
For landholdersHunters
Find accessible land, prove compliance once, and get paid for work that restores farmland and the wild.
For huntersProcessors
Receive traceable, MPI-compliant consignments with a scannable docket on every box — No need to chase paperwork.
For processorsGood to know.
The questions we hear most.
Can I make money from wild ‘pest’ control?
Yes. Harvesting introduced species for petfood is permitted under MPI rules. Happy Ending prepares the declarations and enforces the requirements — vetting, withholding periods and documentation — on every harvest.
How are animals treated humanely?
Our role is the fastest, cleanest, most humane conclusion possible. Hunters are tested on animal welfare and harvest standards, and animals must be alive and healthy at the time of harvest to qualify.
What about poison on the land?
Poison history is captured when a property is listed. The system ensures no toxins can be harvested — most animal are taken from active farmland — the same paddocks where most human food is raised.
Who pays, and who gets paid?
Listing is free for landholders. Happy Ending arranges processor collection and pays hunters for each kg of protein harvested. The pet food supply chain funds the system.
